1837 & appears on a petition that is issued out of McGhee's Store
1837 – 1838 – John McGhee with a partner in business Mathew McGhee &
partner John L McCarty are merchants & have supplied materials for the “Starr” Cherokee
removal to OK/Indian territory & there is “tax” $557.00 at issue for said materials. According
to the merchants, supplies were provided as “trade” for merchandise for sale – not for cash or
improvements in the business - but the government is requiring a “tax” of sales from the
merchants. This issue results in the posting of a $100,000 bond.

1850 – a resident in district 53 of McDonald, MO
1860 – he is not on the census and A.S. McGhee is a boarder in the home of Delila McGhee
1856 – estate is being administered by Delila - re: letter
12 Jan 1860-9 Apr 1861 in a lower central MO there is a John F. McGhee who is in a postmaster position
1 Feb 1866 there is marriage between a John F. McGhee & a Delilah Hiland
in northern Buchanan Co., MO
